Hey everybody, it’s Tyler here. I am doing a deep dive into the career of Welsh singer/songwriter Duffy.

Aimee Anne Duffy better known as Duffy was born on 23 June, 1984, to parents John and Joyce in Bangor, Gwynedd in North Wales, but was brought up in Nefyn near the Market town Pwllheli.

Duffy has a twin sister named Kate and has an older sister called Kelly Ann.

When she was ten, her parents divorced and moved to Letterston near the costal town of Fishguard, Pembrokeshire.

After Duffy finished her GCSEs, she moved back to Nefyn and started singing in local bands.

In 2003, a 19-year-old Duffy appeared on Welsh TV show Wawffactor, and came in second place a year later she released a three-track EP titled Aimee Duffy.

Duffy signed her first record contract on 23 September 2007, and on 3 December of the same year she released her debut single Rockferry - which was released on a limited edition 7 inch vinyl with only 500 copies released.

Rockferry peaked at number 45 on the UK singles chart.

On 15 Febuary 2008, Duffy released her second single Mercy which includes two music videos - one for the UK and Europe audience and one for the US. Mercy went to number one in the UK, Austria, Europe, Netherlands and Ireland.

Mercy won the 2008 Mojo Awards and was nominated for a Brit and Grammy award.

A month later, Duffy released her debut album Rockferry which was a commercial sucess and became the fourth best selling album of 2008.

It reached number one in the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. Rockferry went seven-times Platinum.

Duffy recived the 2009 Brit award for Best British Album which boosted the album sales and won the Best Pop Album award at the 2009 Grammys.

Rockferry is one of my Top 10 favourite albums of all time, as it is one of those albums you can listen to all the way through, without skipping a track. Every single released from the record is worth listening to.

Due to its sucess, it was re-released in deluxe edition format.

Rockferry chalked three more singles, with Warwick Avenue peaking at Number 3 in the UK Charts, and Stepping Stone charting at Number 21 in the UK.  Also, Rain On Your Parade was in the UK charts at number 15.

On 19 October 2010, Duffy released Well Well Well but sadly it did not gain the same success as the Rockferry era, and went in the UK Charts at Number 41.

On 26 November 2010, Duffy released her second - and as of now, final - album Endlessly, which peaked at Number 9 in the UK and racked up a gold disc.

Duffy has endorsed several products, including an advert for Diet Coke with Duffy cycling through a Supermarket singing I Gotta Be Me. This can be viewed below:

There were no more single releases off the album, and Duffy went on a music hiatus and went into acting. She starred in the 2015 crime-thriller, Legend. According to her official website, Duffy is signed to the Universal Recording Group.

In March 2020, Duffy sent an unreleased song called Something Beautiful to Jo Whiley to play on her BBC Radio 2 show, and debuted another track called River in the Sky on her official Instagram page.

During September 2021 Duffy was the featured singer in an episode of the Live@Home music series.

I hope Duffy does come back to music and releases a new album. I hope she is safe and well, and living her best life.
