Fish out the mistletoe, dust off your Christmas jumpers and get some mulled cider at the ready — THE WURZELS have announced their annual Christmas Tour for 2022.
The Scrumpy’n’Western mainstays are gearing up to deck the halls this December, as they bring their rowdy and rollicking mix of cheer and tunes to Reading, Bath, London, Southampton and Cardiff across the festive season.
Signed to label heavyweights Columbia and EMI, The Wurzels continue to play over 100 sell-out shows every year, including the greatest festivals in the land. Their quintessentially scrump Country cover of Kaiser Chiefs’ “Ruby” has been a massive show favourite of late, as well as their hilarious hip-hop version of ubiquitous hit “Combine Harvester”.
The bunch of haystack-headed, not-quite-so-young lads have long paved the way for Scrumpy’n’Western — a genre packed full of double entendre, mainstream parody and comical folk style — and this December they’ll be amping up their usual shenanigans with a jolly dose of Christmastime cheer.
Made up of Tommy Banner, Pete Budd and Sedge Moore, The Wurzels have released a long string of albums, Greatest Hits compilations and live LPs over the years.
Putting a Wurzelised spin on a range of Christmas classics back in 2011, ‘The Wurzels Christmas Album’ featured 12 of their favourite Christmas tunes including “White Christmas”, “Fairytale of New York”, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” and “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”. All sleigh-belled up and ready for a Scrumpy Yuletide singalong, The Wurzels have long brought some merriment to the colder and darker months.
Joining The Wurzels for the festive frolics will be special guest and “agricultural hip-hop” star in the making Corky. Straight out of the farm gates of north Wiltshire’s Dauntsey Vale, Corky is making a bid to be the world’s greatest Scrumpy’n’Western rapper.
Fast becoming the unofficial 21st century national anthem of the West Country, his hit “Ginster’s Paradise” went viral on Facebook, and his debut album ‘Frost Pin First’ has already earned him a loyal, if slightly curious, following from Gloucestershire to Devon.
