The Oxfordshire Science Festival releases their programme for 2017

The Oxfordshire Science Festival programme is out now and bookings go live on Monday 8 May: http://www.oxfordshiresciencefestival.com.

We anticipate over ten thousand people will come and explore some amazing discoveries over the Festival’s six days: 16 – 21 June 2017. There are events all over the Oxford for everyone from touching clouds and building stars, to dancing the Universe or watching a contagious cabaret. There are talks, stalls, exhibitions, performances and a weekend of free hands-on activities for all ages.

Meaty topics discussed at this year’s Festival include sex, food and the future of our planet. The evolution debate will be untangled from science fiction with events asking “is it right to synthesise human genomes?” or “should brain scans be used at airports or in classrooms?”

We invite everyone to explore everything from solar plasmas to pleasure and insect’s knees to the history and fate of humanity. Speakers include, Tom Kerridge and Susan Jebb, Harry Parker, Barbara Sahakian and Nicholas Crane. There’s a panel of leading Science Fiction writers and you may even know one of Oxfordshire’s youngest poets, as pupils across the county are crafting new verses for the Science Festival Poetry Competition.

Oxfordshire Science Festival is produced in association with Science Oxford and supported by University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, local industry, research institutes and publishing houses.

A press pack, with high resolution images, a quote from the new Festival Director and copy, is available for download here: http://www.oxfordshiresciencefestival.com/press-information.html.

The Festival Director is available for interview and comment; researchers and contributors may be requested by arrangement with cathy.rose@oxscifest.org; or phone: 01865 810 016.

As a thank you for your help in promoting the Festival and to introduce you to key people involved, a special preview event will take place on Wednesday 14 June from 6pm with Richard Dawkins and Yan Wong, refreshments and hands-on activities for grown-ups in the Museum of Natural History. Invitation attached – RSVP to cathy.rose@oxscifest.org.
