SUMMER HOLIDAYS AT CORN EXCHANGE NEWBURY

Head to the Corn Exchange Newbury and The Base, Greenham for an exciting range of fun activities and events to keep the whole family entertained this Summer Holiday! 

Start the holidays with a bang at Ministry of Science Live: Science Saved the World, on Saturday 30 July, where the team will wow with nitrogen clouds, explosions, experiments and inspirational facts about the scientists who have shaped our world! The Corn Exchange are also excited to present Amazing August, their new month-long programme of events for children, families and adults alike, taking place from Monday 1 until Saturday 27 August. From Roller Disco’sSuperhero Adventure Trails and underwater themed disco Deep Sea Ravers for little ones, to Silent Disco’s, DJ nights and Vintage Dance Parties for adults, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into to.

Alongside the Amazing August programme, young people can explore their creative side in a variety of fun-filled workshops at the Learning Centre in Newbury town centre. There is the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of Julia Donaldson as her books are brought to life in Julia Donaldson’s Book Club from Monday 25 July until Wednesday 27 July. Budding thespians aged 11 to 18 can create a play in a week at Summer Theatre School, led by Tabitha Dark from Monday 15 to Friday 20 August. And little ones aged 5 - 11 can get stuck in to the Create and Make sessions from Monday 8 to Friday 12 August, where they get to work with professional practitioners to explore the creative arts, develop new skills and make new friends.

Coming up in the Corn Exchange’s 40 seater cinema, young film fans and their families can enjoy the hugely popular Minions: The Rise of Gru, uncovering the origin story of how the world’s greatest supervillain first met his iconic Minions. In The Bad Guys, a group of animal outlaws must pull of their most challenging con yet – becoming model citizen. And in a sequel to the 1970 children’s classic, The Railway Children Return bringing a hint of nostalgia and a whole new adventure.

Plus, up next in the Corn Exchange’s free outdoor arts programme, renowned French performance company Le G. Bistaki will bring their new travelling circus, dance and physical performance, Bel Horizon, to Greenham Common on Saturday 6August. Suitable for ages, this beguiling show seeks to open audiences minds and senses to imagine another world.

Over at The Base, the whole family can enjoy The World of Peter Rabbit Storytime Trail, celebrating the very special rabbit’s 120th birthday. From Saturday 30 July until Sunday 25 September, visitors can immerse themselves in a magical walk-through experience about the childhood favourite The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Alongside the interactive anniversary exhibition are a variety of Peter Rabbit themed workshops that young people can get involved with. On Saturday mornings join Merry Go-Round Storytelling for Peter Rabbit and Friends Storytime Sessions. Budding young artists can leave their own mark on the exhibition by participating in the Peter Rabbit Mural Art workshop led by artist Simon Jardine in sessions throughout the duration of the exhibition, or explore their imagination in Create Your Own Storybook Character workshops led by The Base resident artist Ellie Kerr-Smiley on Wednesday 10 August or Saturday 3 September.
