Critically acclaimed Grammy Award-nominated artist kicks off European tour in Oxford

Critically acclaimed Grammy Award-nominated artist, Tift Merritt, has confirmed Oxford show date.

Touring in support of her her latest and sixth album, Stitch of the World, the album was recorded in Los Angeles while Merritt was six months pregnant and after which she relocated to her hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Thinking motherhood could slow her down would be a foolish thought, as she heads to Oxford’s St Barnabas October 24 to kick off her European tour.

Merritt said: “To play such beautiful rooms in such beautiful musical company - I couldn’t be more excited about this tour.

“I’m also looking forward to being in Europe, showing my daughter so many countries, and spending some time with the lovely Isbell musical family.”

Written on a friend’s farm in Marfa, Texas, at Merritt’s California cabin and in New York City in the wake of several major changes in her life, Stitch of the World has received widespread acclaim.

Prior to recording, Merritt work-shopped the songs for the album with Sam Beam of Iron and Wine after bumping into him in an airport.

Raised in North Carolina, Tift Merritt has released five full-length albums and two live records, including a recent reissue of her debut album Bramble Rose last year.

The New Yorker has called Tift Merritt: “the bearer of a proud tradition of distaff country soul that reaches back to artists like Dusty Springfield and Bobbie Gentry.”

Uncut added: ”...the songs are delivered with a powerful undertow that recalls Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball.”
