Inspired by true accounts of human trafficking, by dreams, broken promises, resilience and above all hope, BOUND tells of three people’s journeys into the unknown.
Oxford based physical theatre company Justice in Motion is passionate about bringing to light the experiences of those trafficked, while exposing the industry that lies behind.
Very much a contemporary story, Justice in Motion looks at the person behind the headlines in BOUND, a moving and beautifully crafted drama about trafficking.
The show is a compelling and passionate mixture of physical theatre, dance, music, spoken word and film creating an entertaining, sometimes humorous and often thought provoking theatrical experience for today’s audiences.
The show, suitable for 14 years and over, is followed, after some performances, by a discussion with the performers and human trafficking experts.
Artistic Director Anja Meinhardt said ’ I had originally intended to create a piece about dreams, hopes and promises but soon found myself in this alien world instead, one which back then, I knew little about.
It could be a difficult subject so the actors and I set about devising a drama that deals with the subject sensitively and in a realistic manner, yet light enough to keep our audience entertained and engaged.
From the responses we get after the show I think we have achieved exactly that.’
The Company is: Anja Meinhardt, Justice in Motion’s artistic director. She trained in Germany, Austria and subsequently in England, amongst others with David Glass, Amit Lahav and Hofesh Shechter.
Emma Webb is a performer, director and choreographer, who recently worked with Wild Boor Ideas, Oxford Playhouse, Shadowlight Artists and Bayanni Theatre.
Daniel Rejano is a physical performer with many years’ experience working within a wide range of venues. He trained at Carampa Circus school in Madrid and Estudis de TeatreLecoq. He has collaborated with Tierra Theatre, Panta Rei, Oily Cart and others.
