Oxford Playhouse lists its Autumn comedy programme line-up

Award-winning comedy stars take to Oxford Playhouse’s main stage this autumn.

The Autumn comedy season will start with Bridget Christie.

- Edinburgh Comedy, Rose d’Or and South Bank Sky Arts Award winner Bridget Christie presents her brand-new show Who Am I? on 26 September. Christie, star of her own Netflix special, appeared in BBC One’s hit comedy Ghosts as Annie, a ghost who said four words and was a finalist for Best Scripted Comedy (longform) BBC Audio Drama Awards.

- Phil Wang is back on tour with Philly Philly Wang Wang (2 October) following his previous sell out shows. Having explored sex, romance, politics and his British-Malaysian heritage in previous shows, this one is said to use his unique smart/silly view to look at morality and the modern sense of self.

- Once an investment banker, Sindhu Vee is now a comedian, actor and writer and comic, appearing on BBC Two’s Live at the Apollo, and panel shows Mock The Week, QI and Have I Got News For You. Her brand-new show, Alphabet on 10 October is said to be about the hair we want, the friends we have and living in the vast difference between virus and viral.

- Jonathan Pie, the irascible political correspondent came on the scene in 2015 with his first spoof news report. His video following the election of Donald Trump in 2016 has been viewed over 4 million times and Pie is now touring the UK, Australia and the US. In Fake News (Corona Remix) on 15 October, he returns to discuss how coronavirus has changed the world and his career prospects.

- Simon Amstell has been a comic since his teen years. This is his first tour since the release of his internationally acclaimed feature film Benjamin. Spirit Hole on 16 October, is described by a spokesperson as “a blissful, sensational, exploration of love, sex, shame and mushrooms.”

- For Andy Hamilton, it’s been a year of cancelled shows, zoom quizzes and nose-swabs, so he is said to be thrilled to be out at last. An Evening Out With Andy Hamilton on 17 October, promises comic reflection, reminiscence and revelation over his sixty plus years.

- The cabaret act, Fascinating Aïda, was formed in 1983. A spokesperson said: “Still going strong nearly 40 years on, the trio bring a songbook of hilarious and topical numbers to the stage on 23 and 24 October, while looking as glamorous as ever.”

- Best known for her viral segments on The Mash Report, Rachel Parris is a musician, singer, actor, improviser and comedian appearing on Live at the Apollo, Mock The Week, QI, Would I Lie To You and Hypothetical. She has received critical acclaim and awards for her solo shows. In All Change Please on 31 October, she performs stand-up and songs about love, relationships, family, weddings, kids, going viral, going mental and the baffling state of play in society right now.
