Oxford Playhouse announces exciting new Autumn Season

Following on from the success of Persuasion in the Summer the Oxford Playhouse have launched their Autumn 2022 Season. 

The blockbuster event of the season comes in the form of modern musical classic Bugsy Malone. Relseased in 1976, Alan Parker’s world-famous movie musical is set in the prohibition era. It will provide instantly recognisable songs from Oscar-winning Paul Williamsincluding Fat Sam’s Grand Slam, My Name is Tallulah and You Give A Little Love.

Elsewhere the acclaimed Lyric Hammersmith production, directed by Sean Holmes, is restaged for new audiences. The production is set to provide escapism as well as plenty of razzmatazz.

And of course, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Panto. This year Cinderella headlines at the Oxford Playhouse under new director Toby Hulse. It shall feature the handsome but hapless Prince Charming, the devilish Dandina and Cinderella herself.

There is also plenty for younger audiences to enjoy with the loveable Zog returning alongside Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout in Zog and the Flying Doctors. A new farmyard musical based on Michael Morpurgo’s Mudpuddle Farm will also feature. Pigs might fly will provide musical fun for younger audiences.

The Playhouse has long held a reputation of presenting the finest comedy. This year providing the laughs is Luke Wright, Harry Hill, sisters Flo & Joan, David O’Doherty, Ed Gamble, Simon Evans and Henning Wehn.

Audiences can enjoy the very best of new writing and fringe theatre around the corner from the Playhouse’s Main Stage. The Burton Taylor Studio is regarded to be the coolest and smallest venue in town. 
 
Other highlights of the Season include RUSH. A joyous Jamaican journey telling the story of Reggae music and the Windrush generation, narrated by comedian John Simmit.
