A new social group has been set up in Bradford-on-Avon for people affected by Parkinson’s.

The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at Wiltshire Music Centre between 10.30 and 12pm for coffee, cake and an informal chat, with the scope for other opportunities in the future depending on interest.

The group offers information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers.

Jane Henderson, Volunteer Co-ordinator (West) of Parkinson’s UK, said; “We’re thrilled to have this new group for people affected by Parkinson’s in Bradford-on-Avon. Everybody’s welcome to come along to ask questions, get information and meet other people who are facing Parkinson’s too. We’re here to make sure that no one has to face Parkinson’s alone.”

The next meeting is during Parkinson’s Awareness Week and will take place Thursday 13th April from 10.30am.

This year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Week, which runs from 10-16 April, aims to highlight the urgent need for better treatments for the 127,000 people affected by Parkinson’s across the UK, and to ask the public to support Parkinson’s research.

Parkinson’s is a complex neurological condition, with varying symptoms which get worse over time. For some people having Parkinson’s can be a frustrating and isolating experience, and this can be compounded by treatment options that only mask the symptoms of the condition.
