Misfires hit The Vic for an indie-takeover in Swindon

Save the date for The Vic’s free indie-takeover Thursday August 31 for some of Swindon’s upcoming and highly anticipated local talent.

When was the last time you went to see a live local band? I’m not talking about a sold out gig at an O2 venue, I mean heading to the pub on a Thursday night and checking out the local talent on your doorstep.

The Night of the Ocelot returns next week at the The Vic who will be hosting an influx of Swindon-based indie talent with three impressive acts. As far as local goes, this event has pulled in a triple dose of Swindon natives who, based on reviews, won’t be playing free admission shows for long.

MISFIRES

Misfires, or ‘the noisey boys from down the road’, have been building up quite the storm over recent months.

This September the four piece indie-rock band will be taking off to the likes of Machester, Glasgow, and Leeds, but of course not forgetting their hometown of Swindon before they reach the sky.

SRA Music said: “Think Catfish & The Bottlemen mixed with Libertines, mixed with Oasis, and that band is Misfires. We reckon they’ll be one of the biggest bands to walk the planet.”

Spilt Milk Magazine added: “The next indie super band.”

THE SULKS

Although new to the scene, The Sulks have been gaining momentum, and fast. Since forming just last year the young band already have three singles under their belt which has rewarded them with well earned attention.

Indie they may be, their eclectic influences shine through in their sound, taking influence from all corners of all genres such as the drama of Alt J and Arcade Fire, and the pop sensibility of Foals and The Beatles.

Graciously harmonised with dramatic effect, their explosive live performances echo that of a much more experienced band.

GETRZ

Having already played at The Vic and Swindon’s Level III this year, GETRZ are no stranger to performing in their hometown.

As individuals GETRZ’s influences vastly range from Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, King Krule, and Ed Sheeran, yet as a band they synchronise beautifully.

Following the release of their first EP this month, the band are moving from strength to strength, bringing with them progressive and chilled out riffs as well as their unstoppable energy.

Admission is completely free all night, and doors open at 8.30pm.
