Acclaimed musician and TV personality Jools Holland and renowned comic and artist Jim Moir, also known as Vic Reeves, have strapped in for a new series of their hilarious travel podcast, Jools and Jim’s Joyride.

For the new series, inspired by their humorous chemistry and shared love of all things travel, Jools and Jim have bussed in a fresh line-up of celebrity guests as they discuss the winding road of life and eclectic experiences behind the wheel. Stepping aboard Jools and Jim’s Joyride for the premiere of series five is none other than Soft Cell singer and regular Jools Holland collaborator, Marc Almond

Boasting an incredible career both as a solo artist as well as in synthpop duo Soft Cell, Marc Almond is an icon and influence to a generation of musicians. He has also regularly collaborated with Jools Holland, from touring with Jools and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra to the pair releasing a joint album, A Lovely Life To Live.

Ever eccentric, Almond’s history of pets includes a pet parrot, a pet jackdaw, and even a pet Senegal parrot. Some of his feathered friends were even able to cover Soft Cell’s biggest hits as he reveals on the episode…

Marc Almond: I have a Jackdaw called Dawkins. Dawkins came from a friend of mine in Yorkshire who has a bird sanctuary. There was a nest that had been decimated by other birds, and this was the remaining egg that was left in the nest. So they took it, incubated it, and said ‘would you like a jackdaw’? I can’t say whether I would do the same thing again, but it’s such a lovely, lovely pet. Not one I would recommend to a lot of people to have, but if you do have a corvid, a crow, a jackdaw… they are very fascinating, rewarding, entertaining, brilliant birds. She can turn on the television, she can turn on the air cooler so she can sit there with the air going up her feathers.

Jools Holland: Do you have a macaw as well?

Marc Almond: I have two parrots, called Fruity and Casper.

Jools Holland: And do they say much?

Jools Holland: They’re not really talking parrots. But I had a talking parrot for about 30 odd years called Jacko, and he could sing ‘Tainted Love’, he could sing everything! I thought about sending him out and tour and staying at home!
