John Cooper Clarke has added four extra dates to his UK tour for Spring 2023, with new stops in CanterburyOxfordNottingham and Bath just announced. Touring in celebration of his long-awaited autobiography ‘I Wanna Be Yours’, JCC will also be heading to LincolnBarrowHull and Cheltenham.

One of Britain’s most beloved and influential writers and performers, the so-called Bard of Salford is a phenomenon: Poet Laureate of Punk, rock star, fashion icon, TV and radio presenter and cultural commentator.

The 2023 run of shows is set to be a breathtaking showcase of poetry and spoken word performance, with John sharing stories from his incredible life and hugely successful career. Taking audiences on an incredible journey with pieces from his new book, JCC will also deliver his usual musings, off-the-wall chat, riffs, gags and wicked humour.

Clarke’s ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ memoir was released in 2020 by Picador, and explores his extraordinary life over the years. Interspersed with stories of his rock’n’roll and performing career, the book is filled with remarkable personalities: from Nico to Chuck BerryBernard Manning to Linton Kwesi JohnsonElvis Costello to Gregory CorsoMark E. Smith to Gil Scott Heron and Joe Strummer, and on to more recent fans and collaborators like Alex TurnerPlan B and Guy Garvey.

Revealing his mind-boggling encyclopaedic take on pop culture over the centuries, JCC discusses everything from Baudelaire and Edgar Allan Poe to Pop Art, pop music, the movies, fashion, football and show business — with more than a few laughs thrown in along the way.

John Cooper Clarke shot to prominence in the 1970s as the original ‘people’s poet’, and since then his career has spanned cultures, audiences, art forms and continents. As relevant and vibrant as ever, JCC’s influence is still visible in pop culture today. Aside from his trademark ‘look’ continuing to resonate with fashionistas young and old, his poetry is included on the national curriculum and his effect on modern music remains huge.

His influence can be heard within the keen social observations of the likes of Plan B and Arctic Monkeys — marking John’s involvement in two recent global Number 1 albums — with the latter putting one of John’s best-loved poems ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ to music on their critically acclaimed 2013 album ‘AM’.
