It is landing! Easter Island Statues ready to launch Space Canine single – LAIKA

Indie rockers The Easter Island Statues are set to release new single Laika accompanied by a space themed stop motion animation of their own creation.

Inspired by Aardman Studios, Wes Anderson & Isle of Dogs – Directed and Produced by Lead Singer, Donald Campbell, in collaboration with Mikey Bicarregui (Animation&Editor) and Eve Bannister (Chief Set Design & Animator).

Laika is due for release ahead of their biggest hometown show to date on Saturday 20 October, where they will be playing Ritual Union 2018 - alongside headliners Gaz Coombes,  Ghostpoet and Jane Weaver.

Of the EP, Fresh on the Net said: “… it’s a fine slice of whip smart indie-rock, the sort that fans of Franz Ferdinand would clamber to get their hands on.”

The most ambitious project undertaken by the group to-date tells the true story of Laika the first dog in space, launched aboard Sputnik 2 in November 1957. Laika was a street stray in Moscow, picked up, and rapidly launched into the Russian space programme at the start of the Space Race. The true nature of her grisly fate was suppressed at the time by the U.S.S.R and instead hailed as a demonstration of technological power.

The story fascinated song writer Donald and, drawing on influences such as Pixies and Franz Ferdinand, created this loud/quiet/loud alt-rocker, concluding with an appropriately fiery finish.
