Ahhhh the temperatures drop but then a different kind of fun kicks in. Irregular Folk love to celebrate the warm cosy yuletide season it‚Äôs a great opportunity for people to come together it’s a veritable feast for the¬†senses. Here‚Äôs their festive gift to you in the form of three carefully chosen, very special artists indeed, plus their much loved host.

You Are Wolf, wow well ….Kerry Andrew is the main creative force behind this evenings trio. Her work celebrates the musical textual qualities of bird song melded with old old folk tales and song. She transforms these tales into sounds so ethereal, and stories so vivid you will be transported to a whole other, very beautiful world.  Kerry’s stunning vocal abilities and mastery of the loop pedal will be accompanied by cello, percussion and bass. Here you get to enjoy a fusion of electronica and leftfield pop along with contemporary classical stylings. BBC 6Music, Radio 3, and BBC 4 just can’t get enough of her!

“Imagine Bjork working her magic on the English Folk Tradition” Uncut

Ben See’s work struck Irregular Folk immediately earlier this year. It’s utterly refreshing, daring and original! Ben works solely with the voice, exploring and stretching vocal techniques to the max.  For the Christmas special, everyone will be treated with a line up of 4 vocalists performing Bens inspiring, catchily clever music.  If we are forced to liken him to others think Owen Pallett and Sufjan Stevens mixed with Brian Wilson and influences from the big man himself, Benjamin Britten.

‘…his debut release could well be one of the most daring and musically adventurous records you’ll hear all year.’ Tom Robinson – BBC6 Music

Claire Le Master. Irregular Folk first saw Claire playing the open mic evening at Catweazel. They’ve never forgotten her cheekily brilliant serene yet sassy vocal. That was about two years ago and now the right slot has come available to bring her into the Irregular Folk clutches! ha!   There’s a wit and guile in her song writing that will capture your imagination from the off.

They like to add a cherry on top and my goodness what a fantastically potent cherry George is. Yes, George Chopping is back.  We’re addicted to the uniquely observant and oh so apt wit of Mr Chopping. He kicks the ass of any host we’ve ever seen before and we are so very proud that he’s local to Oxford too

My goodness we haven’t even mentioned the venue yet. What a STUNNING place St Barnabas Church is. It’s been a dream of ours for a few years now to put a gig on in there and now…well folks dreams to come true. It’s a beauty, and run by such lovely people who. They’ve put in underfloor heating - we will be very cosy - AND they were very proud to tell us that they’ve just added in a lovely bar. SUPERB!
So there we have it, 4 uber talented artists. We’ll be running a bar packed with all the trimmings, mulled wine, carefully selected wines, maybe some mulled cider and our favourite Loose Cannon ales.  Being an early start affordable snacks will be on sale too - they might be in the form of Rudolf rolls and a vege alternative for those keen more into hugging Rudolf, than eating him.
Hope to see you there.
