One of Devizes’ best kept secrets, amongst many, is its sports club, hidden away between the Kennet and Avon canal and Wiltshire Police Headquarters. But this provides the ideal location to stage what ever event you want.
Devizes Sports Club was formed in 1971 with the union of Devizes Cricket, Tennis and Rugby Clubs. The Devizes Cricket Club field had been rented since 1887 and was purchased from the Roundway estate in 1945. A parcel of this land is shared with Devizes Lawn Tennis Club and has been developed into the wonderful facility enjoyed today.
In 2000 Devizes Sports Club secured a grant from Sport England to build a new clubhouse and purchase a second cricket field and second rugby pitch to accommodate its increasing membership, which is the serene, almost parkland setting that the Sports Club house now sits in. The club isn’t lacking for open space, should your function wish to expand to enjoy the great outdoors.
The upscaled, extended and refurbished clubhouse is now a magnificent space, which is modern and functional. In recent months it has played host to monthly live music (see opposite page for more on that) but also is regularly hired for local business conferences, wedding anniversary celebrations, children’s parties and everything in between.
There really isn’t a limit to what this space can be used for thanks to the fully equipped bars and fantastic catering available on site for everything from a finger buffet to set lunches and dinners.
