Scheduled to take place during Dementia Awareness Week, the Corn Exchange will be celebrating the creative work of older people, including those living with dementia, in the local community as part of their growing Ageing Creatively programme.
The programme explores creative ways for older people to engage in the arts in both community and care settings, offering activities and courses across multiple art forms, including music, poetry, dance and visual arts.
Highlights during the day will include a sing-along of popular 70s songs, led by the Corn Exchange’s Choir 55 group at 12pm, and a poetry reading at 1pm by students from Trinity School who have taken part in the Corn Exchange’s Words Together project with members of Fairclose Day Centre.
The Corn Exchange will also be hosting a free reminiscence cream tea in their balcony bar from 2.30pm, where there will be an opportunity to view visual art work produced by residents from the Willows Edge and Walnut Close care homes during the Corn Exchange’s This is Me project.
West Berkshire Dementia Action Alliance will be present all day to chat, answer questions and share any relevant information.
People of all ages are welcome to attend this exciting, free community event.
