Be part of 'Human Animals' coming to the Shoebox Theatre

The Shoebox Theatre Company is looking for non-professional actors to play lead roles in their next community production of ‘Human Animals’ by Stef Smith.

The Swindon-based company was launched with the intention of giving local performers the opportunity to discover and perform new work and contemporary scripts and to develop their performance skills.

“By taking part in a Shoebox Theatre Company production you can expect the support you need to develop as an actor, whilst building on your performance experience and repertoire within a professional theatre setting.” said Hannah Marquez, Producer at the Shoebox Theatre.

“Previously the company have successfully tackled ‘When the Rain Starts Falling’ by Andrew Bovell and ‘The Wonderful World of Dissocia’ by Anthony Neilson, and although challenging pieces, both shows were very well received by audiences and critics alike.”

First performed at The Royal Court in 2016, ‘Human Animals’ depicts a chilling vision of a dystopian London. In the overcrowded city, nature is getting out of control, mice are scratching between walls, the pigeons are diseased and the foxes are beginning to rule the streets. The problem is growing. It’s contagious. It has to be stopped, before it’s too late.

“Human Animals will be our third community theatre performance and we have an amazing creative and technical team set up to bring Stef Smith’s dystopian vision to life. It’s all really exciting and we cannot wait to get started!” said Hannah.

The Shoebox is currently looking for six actors, with various playing ages ranging from twenty to sixty, to play the lead roles of John, Nancy, Si, Lisa, Jamie and Alex.
