“Alluring new talent

Following his sold–out show at the Slaughtered Lamb last week, in support of his acclaimed album Rosewood Almanac, Will Stratton has announced his Oxford show date.

After the announcement of his tour, supporting folk singer John Smith, Will Stratton will be gracing the stage of St Barnabus Church November 16.

Rosewood Almanac, Will Stratton’s first album on Bella Union, is a work of fragile magic: a hypnotic combination of beautifully breathy voice and exquisite lyrical imagery, gorgeous melodies and similarly soft-spun instrumentation, centred on his thrumming acoustic guitar and the verdant presence of velvet strings.

The Guardian said: “This is the sound of lost summers, dangling one foot in the waters where Midlake and Iron & Wine have spent time, another in the depths of Nick Drake and Bert Jansch.”

Born in California, mostly raised in New Jersey and currently an upstate New Yorker, this great-grandson of a travelling preacher started songwriting and recording while at high school, before going on to study philosophy and music composition.

Having listened intently to Leonard Cohen and Hank Williams, Will said: “Singers who try to wring as much meaning out of every sound they’re making, in correspondence to every other sound, some words are political, some are imagistic, some are personal.”
