The London-based singer songwriter Alice D today shares her brand new single ‘Passion’ along with its official video. It positions the rising talent as one to watch as she prepares to drop more new music in the near future. Her previous independent releases have seen her pick-up airplay from BBC Music Introducing and 1Xtra, feature on H&M’s global playlist, and collaborate with the renowned producer Oscar Scheller (MabelBiig Piig, Tkay Maidza). Listen HERE. Watch the official video for ‘Passion’ HERE.

‘Passion’ sees Alice D expand upon her contemporary pop, soul and R&B roots by drawing upon a bright palette of shimmering global sounds, especially her love of Afro-Latin music culture both past and present. Alice D’s sensual, sultry vocal explores the exhilaration of a fresh new romance at the height of summer. Her lyrics blend into a production which uses laidback Cuban-tinged rhythms and vibrant West African guitar grooves to generate a heat to match the full-on fervour of the lyrics. ‘Passion’ was written by Alice D and produced by her regular collaborator Tim Blok.

Alice says, “I’ve loved those sounds for such a long time, and to have the freedom to experiment then finally find a way of incorporating them into my own work has really cemented my sound. I’m so excited to finally release Passion”.

The ‘Passion’ video conveys the fervour of its emotions by channelling them via slick, seductive choreography. It was inspired by Bachata Sensual, a dance style used to express romantic feelings in a way that says more than mere words can. The style was created in CádizSpain, by Jorge Escalona (aka Korke) and was further developed in collaboration with Judith Cordero.

The video was conceptualised by Alice D, who also styled the shoot and co-produced the visual alongside its director Henry Croston (Mabel, Yung Filly, Liam Payne).

Alice D adds, “I had the idea of creating a video at sunset, with the use of haze and the warm lighting we were able to replicate a hot summer’s evening. Having cutaways of the dancers and close-ups of movement heightened this sense of a passionate love affair. Together with the isolated shots of myself, this exaggerated this sense of longing for that person.”

Alice D started making her own music during childhood, before stepping into the underground dance scene by writing and performing toplines from her own DIY bedroom space. Step-by-step, she gradually honed her own sound with her old friend Oscar Scheller, embracing a modern R&B style with the influence of London’s vibrant music culture. An obsessive vinyl collector and crate digger, Alice D’s sound continued to evolve with elements of bossa nova and flamenco on last year’s EP ‘Where The Wildflowers Grow’ and again with this new single.

She grew up in a family in which music was a way of life. Her mother, Sara Dallin, is a founder member of ‘80s icons Bananarama, while her father, Bassey Walker, was a dancer (Michael Jackson, Tina Turner) and a musician. Alice credits her mother’s work ethic as an inspiration, but has always been determined to ensure that her music is entirely her own vision. That goal is now reaching new heights with ‘Passion’, especially as her latest songwriting focuses on immensely personal themes of defiance and fragility, lostness and purpose, and empowerment in tight corners.
