The White Horses of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire are widely known and admired, and the Theatre Des Bicyclettes have created a family orientated poetic performance around our counties’ iconic chalk steeds called ‘The Nine White Horses’.

They will be bringing the performance to Pewsey Heritage Museum on Sunday November 15.

Basing the performance on the ‘perceptions and open imaginations of their audience’ the poetry and drama is all the brainchild of founder and writer Robert Stredder, who journeyed around the Wiltshire and Oxfordshire Downs in the spirit of the Brontes on the Yorkshire Moors.

The poems especially highlight the “dramatic intensity” of the chalk carvings and their everyday visitors, focusing heavily on the horse at Uffington Castle, the oldest of the nine.

The show is for all, historians, walkers and for those who are interested in the White Horse Trail. Children of all ages will be included in the performance at the end of the tale, becoming actual horses and ponies if they feel like getting dressed up!

As a mix of live music, poetry, dance and drama, the Nine White Horses is an historically rich performance guaranteed to entertain but also peek the curiosity around our area’s most iconic symbols of heritage and civilisation.
