Young actors set to star in 10-part play by Horrible Histories author Terry Diary

Two child actors from Swindon are set to star in a new 10-part play on BBC Wiltshire from Monday 29 May.

The play, ‘The Wyvern of Wiltshire’, has been written by the bestselling Horrible Histories author, Terry Deary.

This new Wiltshire-wide play is a quest across time, space, myth and legend. It sees Amy (Emilia Midwinter) and George (Vlad Blakey) explore the medieval library at Salisbury Cathedral, where all they expect to find are dusty books…but they are soon embarking on the adventure of their lives!

Mary Sanders, Editor of BBC Wiltshire, said: “This is an extremely exciting project and it’s a real honour that Terry Deary has written the plays for us. The Wyvern of Wiltshire showcases the fantastic talents of some of our local actors, as well as celebrating the iconic landmarks around Wiltshire. The plays are a tale of mystery, myth and legend and we do hope you’ll enjoy solving the clues!”

Both Vlad Baker, 14, and Emilia Midwinter, 13, attend Prime Youth Theatre.

Vlad is home schooled and Emilia Midwinter attends The Commonweal School.  The play also features BBC Wiltshire presenter, Rhik Sammander and Barbara Kirby and is directed by Mark Powell.

‘The Wyvern of Wiltshire’ has been written exclusively for BBC Wiltshire in partnership with Prime Youth Theatre and Salisbury Arts Festival. Listen every weekday from 11am on Monday 29 May on BBC Wiltshire, 103.6 FM| 103.5FM | 104.3FM | DAB. The play will be downloadable from bbc.co.uk/bbcwiltshire during and after the Festival.
