The film, produced by Swindon-based Create Studios, shows the impact of the charity’s work on newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers.
The charity provides help and support to people who often arrive with nothing. A daily drop-in centre offers social activities as well as help and advice on issues as diverse as health, housing and the British way of life.
First set up over twenty years ago, The Harbour Project has seen a huge increase in its workload over recent years, with asylum seekers coming from the world’s hot spots, - places where war and violence are a daily reality.
Each year the charity helps hundreds of people - as well as information and advice, there are English classes, art workshops and skills training.
The Christmas Appeal aims to take advantage of Grow Your Tenner, a scheme running this week on charity giving website localgiving.org - for every ten pounds someone donates, the website will donate the same amount to the charity.
“We want our Christmas Appeal to make a real difference”, says charity Chairman David Rowlands. “The people arriving at our door have so many complex needs, we’re really being stretched to the limit just to provide the basic support needed.”
“The Grow Your Tenner scheme will only run for a few days, but it is a great chance for people to double their money when they give - and to help in a really direct way.”
