London’s closest camping festival Standon Calling adds even more names to the bill, for what is shaping up to be the most diverse and exciting festival line-up in its 17-year history! Announcing two stage headliners today, with Shygirl joining the all-female line up on the Laundry Meadows stage and Sainté and D Double E heading up a new rap and hip hop night called FutureFlow on The Cowshed stage, Standon is really staking its claim as
the only place to be this summer.
Shygirl, the smart London-based lyricist, rapper and DJ is taking the alternative pop world by storm, creating subversive, deconstructed club sounds that command attention in a live setting. The Guardian came away from her “alluring” live show at Printworks convinced she’s “one of the UK’s most exciting artists”, and similarly NME crowned her as “one of pop’s brightest and most innovative new stars” after witnessing her headline show at the start of this year. Through a series of collaborations with the likes of Björk, Sophie, FKA Twigs, Slowthai - and recently an electrifying feature on Mura Masa’s updated 00’s UK garage classic ‘bbycakes’ with Lil Uzi Vert and PinkPantheress - Shygirl is already in a league with the most inventive, boundary-pushing artists around, and her headline set on Standon Calling’s second stage this summer will certainly be one to remember.
Joining a spectacular musical bill that already boasts the likes of Years & Years, Self Esteem, Bloc Party and The Human League as the main stage headliners across the extended four day weekend between 20th - 23rd July, and late night headliners Katy B, Faithless DJ, Groove Armada DJ and LF System, some fantastic additions joining the party at Standon Lordship today include the danceable Manchester group Porij, the eclectic and soulful West London vocalist George Riley the avant-punk queen Nuha Ruby Ra, who is nothing short of a performance powerhouse, and the unapologetic and empowering ‘ugly pop’ artist ZAND.
New for 2023, Standon Calling introduces FutureFlow, the all new hip-hop heavy party coming to close the show on Sunday night over on the Cowshed. Following Hospitality’s drum and bass takeover with High Contrast on Friday night and the 24hr Garage Girls doing what they do best on Saturday, Sunday night now belongs to beats and bar. Serving up hip hop icons next to the new gen of UK rap, experience the Cowshed bursting with the freshest MCs, hailing from the most potent rap scenes all around the UK.
Sainté, described by i-D as “one of the UK’s brightest young rappers” is announced as the headliner today. The Leicester-bred lyricist fuses vintage R&B sounds with authentic UK rap on hits like ‘Champagne Shots’ and ‘Stylin’’, and recently toured with the likes of Denzel Curry. MOBO award-winning veteran D Double E is a major player in the UK grime scene, responsible for inspiring Dizzee Rascal to pick up a mic, and once described by Skepta as “the greatest grime MC of all time”- so who better to launch the Cowshed’s new rap programme this summer. Joining Sainté and D Double E will be the voice behind the Wales Women’s 2023 World Cup Soundtrack Juice Menace, the thought-provoking South-West London rapper Kam-BU, and the midlands rising star Queen Millz.
Elsewhere more additions prove why Standon Calling always provides the most fabulous four-day weekend of fun, with the rare chance to witness The Stickmen Project live, a true viral sensation with over 7 million followers on TikTok, alongside the likes of beats and bassline boss Champion, Defect and more on the electronic stages.
With the line up close to completion for the festival’s 17th edition at Standon Lordship in Hertfordshire this July, Standon Calling is now a permanent fixture in the calendar for thousands of festival-loving families across the UK. The beloved independent festival is also on course to surpass last year’s Keychange achievement with 55% of the performing artists identifying as female on non-binary. As one of the UK’s leading family-friendly festivals and London’s closest camping weekender, the commitment to addressing gender parity and delivering a diverse and inclusive lineup is central to Standon Calling’s ongoing ethos of inspiring the next generation of music fans attending the event.
With its world of immersive and magical moments popping up all over the weekend, it’s no wonder Standon fans keep coming back in growing numbers, with new generations welcomed into the festival family each year. From the famous Dog Show to Saturday’s themed Costume Parade, everyone has their own favourites. Whether it’s starting the day with some wild well-being, for those looking to limber up for the dance with a yoga class, and submerge in theswimming pool and riverside hot tubs, or taking in some quality Comedyand Talks over on The Lawn, or just diving into some games, crafts andcreative workshops fit for all ages, you can always rely on an impressive array of mouth-watering street food and drinks to keep everyone going. Found less than an hour away from London, Standon Calling offers the ultimate exploration of music and arts for all ages, hidden in the heart of the English countryside.
