Shoebox Theatre to host a variety of acting courses

The Swindon-based theatre will be holding various different courses for aspiring actors - or anyone who wishes to try their hand at something different.

The courses will all be run through The Actors’ Institute whose workshops continue to take place in its purpose built, fully equipped studio located in the Shoebox.

A spokesperson said: “Whether you’re looking for drama school preparation, advanced actor training or classes for beginners - they offer something for you!”

The following classes/courses will be on offer to members of the public:

- ‘Acting for Camera’ is a five day course beginning Friday 3 September. Jack Price, Head of MA Screen Acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, will be running this intensive course. Jack is one of the UK’s leading Acting for Camera teachers and has taught with RADA, Italia Conti, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and The Actors Centre. In this 100% practical course (spread over two weekends), individuals will focus on how to produce great work as an actor in a film production environment.

- ‘Actor’s Workout - Scene Study’ is a six week course that will run from 21 September (19:30pm). During these sessions, members of the public will work on scenes with two or more characters, taken from the stage and screen. Individuals can expect to undertake text analysis, explore the psychology of a character and work with quick direction in an audition setting. The course is said to explore the teachings of a range of practitioners such as Stanislavski, Meisner, Chubuck and Uta Hagen, to find organic and authentic moments within a performance. These sessions aim to provide a practical experience of acting text, and individuals will be working towards in-class performances for immediate feedback.
