Low Island return home with ground breaking new track

After just two EPs Oxford experimentalists, Low Island, have started to build a cult following as well as support from an eclectic collection of the UK’s leading tastemakers.

After hitting Glasgow and Leeds the band will be returning home to debut their third EP at Oxford’s Union Festival, October 21.

Although we like to keep things local, the next stage of their tour takes Low Island to Barcelona’s Primavera Club and London’s Corsica Studios. The next stage of their venture indicates what kind of electronic ambience and vibe to expect.

NME said: “Music to be played in clubs for lost ex-lovers.”

Having drifted through their tracks I’m left with a kind of chill. There’s something quite illusive about them which you could confuse with unsettling, but it is in fact more hypnotic than anything. Whack in some mesmerising visuals and you’ll probably spend their whole set in a trance, but the good kind.

The 405 added: “Resolute architects in creating beautiful and beguiling walls of sound.”

On their latest track, The Lines, vocalist and instrumentalist Jamie said: “There have always been people who want to define the world with dividing lines.

“The song is from the perspective of these people, who feel threatened by those on the other side of the line. If you listen very carefully in the middle of the song, you might hear their voices.”

I can understand why Low Island are relatively niche or cult at the moment, their sound is undoubtably avant-garde, but I’m willing to predict they won’t stay underground for too long.
