Keep an eye out for Wiltshire Sight at Freshers’ Week

Wiltshire Sight are supporting National Eye Health Week with a number of events and activites throughout September, after statistics show just one in four teenagers have had an eye test.

This begins with visits to freshers’s fairs at Chippenham College on Monday 11, Lackham College on Tuesday 12 and Trowbridge College on Wednesday 13. This is part of Wiltshire Sight’s Prevention and Education campaign after new evidence was revealed that Wiltshire children and young people’s eyes are at risk.

During the visits, Sight Adviser Sarah will provide information on sight loss from a Wiltshire Sight stall. She will be raising awareness of the importance of eye tests even for children and young people, the effects alcohol and cigarettes can have on your sight and the other activites Wiltshire Sight are taking part in to support National Eye Health Week.

Sight Adviser at Wiltshire Sight, Sarah said: “I’m very excited to be getting out into the community and educate an age group that may not know about sight loss and the importance of good eye health. We are looking forward to the reactions from college students!”

Statistics show that less than one in four young people in Wiltshire and Swindon are getting their eyes tested and that 50% of sight loss is preventable with regular eye tests.
