A spokesperson for the album said: “There is a strong British influence on the album – Kat worked on the album with Linda Perry before retreating to London to record the original mix of what would become ‘Love Made Me Do It’. The album sits at the core of Kat’s universe, proving that music is her first and strongest passion.

“Classical training and a deep appreciation for music are evident across the 12 track album which features Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) on the talismanic Protected - a Peter Murphy song that never saw the light of day and co-written with Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails). The album closing track ‘The Calling’ features proto-Goth goddess Vampira a gorgeous elegy punctuated by an original poetry reading by the muse herself using original reel-to-reel Vampira’s diary recordings.”

‘Love Made Me Do It’ is said to prove that music is Kat’s first and strongest passion. Long before the tattoos, television shows, best-selling books and beauty empire, Kat Von D said she sat down at a piano for nearly two hours a day and played.

She said music became her first creative language and most trusted outlet. Classical training and a deep appreciation for music of all genres essentially underscored her life. Kat studied voice under Ken Tamplin six days per week, strengthening her vocals.

In 2012, she began writing with Grammy Award-nominated Linda Perry. Following this experience, Kat continued to write on her own, sitting at the piano. During 2014, she retreated to London to record the original mix of what would become her full-length debut album ‘Love Made Me Do It’ (KVD/Kartel Music Group) before cementing it with her band – Gregg Foreman AKA Mr. Pharmacist (synth 1/Cat Power, The Gossip), Sammi Doll (synth 2/IAMX), Dave Parley (drums/Prayers), and Brynn Route (contortionist).

The band moved into a bungalow cottage on her property, lived together, and finished the record. Capping off the process, Dan Haigh of Gunship handled mixing. The album is descrubed as ‘a pastiche of shapeshifting analog synths, post-punk dreamscapes, gothic hues, and shy pop magnetism, these eleven songs echo the eternal will of the perennially brokenhearted to love until death.’

The singer introduces the album with the track Exorcism’, a cinematic and symphonic slow burn, written by Kat after “having binged on every exorcist movie that ever existed”, and defined by Billboard as “a darkwave bop about love, loss and change” - which unveils the album’s recurring theme.

Kat Von D said: “‘Love Made Me Do It’ is a collection of all my hopeless romantic thoughts poured into one album.”

Written by Chris Brenner and Danny Lohner, known for his work with Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle - the third single to be lifted from the upcoming album, ‘Enough’, is a ‘darkwave laced ode to lost lovers’ in which Kat says she continues exploring the darkest angles of an unhealthy relationship.

She said: “They’d actually worked on the song together, but they’d never done anything with it. It’s one of only two songs I didn’t write on the album,”

Produced by and co-written with Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy and Danny Lohner, the talismanic ‘Protected’ is said to entwine their voices over raindrops and a funeral procession of keys. Their call-and-response proves instantly chilling.

Kat said: “When we were working on the album, Danny was showing me old demos, and he was like, ‘Here’s a Peter Murphy song that never saw the light of day’. At the time, it was very stripped down—just piano and vocals. It moved me so much though. I wanted to make it into a duet and bring light to it.”

The album ends with ‘The Calling.’ ‘Glossy synths’ are said to ‘pulsate as she immortalizes the first scream queen Vampira in a gorgeous elegy punctuated by an original poetry reading by the muse herself.’

The artist added: “It’s about death, but more specifically, I was inspired by Vampira.”

“I’ve always loved her. Before she died, Vampira gave my friend Johnny Coffin her old reel-to-reel diary recordings. I had to use these never before heard recordings on the bridge.”
