JACK JOHNSON TO RETURN TO THE UK

ANNOUNCES A DATE AT LONDON’S HAMMERSMITH EVENTIM APOLLO

American singer-songwriter, surfer and environmentalist, Jack Johnson will be bringing his beautifully-crafted tunes and soothing, island-inspired vocals back to the UK with a date at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on June 21st 2023.

Following up on sold out dates in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Brazil, Johnson’s Meet The Moonlight World Tour will be concluding in the UK with shows at the historic Hammersmith Eventim Apollo in London and Eden Project in Cornwall as part of their Eden Sessions next summer. Johnsonʻs latest album, Meet the Moonlight released earlier this year, was produced by Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Perfume Genius, Jim James) and recorded both in Los Angeles (at Sound City and EastWest) and The Mango Tree (Johnson’s studio in Hawaiʻi). The creation process marks a major artistic milestone from past work, taking shape from a one-on-one collaboration with Mills (whose contributions included everything from fretless guitar to Moog synth to steel drums) and unveiled an intimate and highly experimental process that involved embedding Johnson’s elegantly stripped-back arrangements with enchanting sonic details.

Johnson’s live shows have always been hugely popular and his return to the UK, after nearly 5 years away, will inevitably sell out with London being very close to the singer’s heart: “I am looking forward to returning to the UK to gather together and share songs,” said Jack from his hometown in Haleiʻwa, Hawaiʻi, “It’s exciting and heartwarming to be so welcomed in a beautiful city like London, which is on the opposite side of the globe from where I live.”.

Jack Johnson grew up surfing and playing guitar on the North Shore of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Johnson’s debut album Brushfire Fairytales was released in 2001. With extensive touring support, the album entered the UK charts and included the singles “Bubble Toes” and “Flake.” Johnson’s laidback, sunny songs caught the attention first of college music fans, but it was not long before he began gaining acclaim across a wider range of pop genres. A second solo album, ‘On and On’, was released in 2003 and peaked at #30. Two years later, his third solo release, ‘In Between Dreams’, reached #1 and sold over six million copies worldwide. It included the huge hits “Better Together” and “Good People” and the single “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing,” which gained Johnson a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. In 2006, Johnson won the BRIT Awardfor International Breakthrough Artist. Johnson also went on to provide the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Curious George which opened his music up to an even broader demographic. 2008’s ʻSleep Through The Static’ debuted at #1 on the US album chart. Each subsequent album has featured a #1 song on the Adult Album Alternative Chart, with Johnson holding the record for total #1’s. Since 2001, Johnson has released seven studio albums and two live albums that have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and his songs have been streamed over 6 billion times in the streaming era.

Johnson is also known for using his notoriety to promote environmental activism. His Brushfire Records label and touring crew have been leaders in the greening of the music industry and his All At Once social action network inspires fans to get involved in their local and global community.. Jack, with his wife Kim, founded the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation to support environmental education in Hawai’i’s schools and communities, as well as the Johnson Ohana Foundation to support environmental, art and music education worldwideProceeds from these albums and tour profits, along with Johnson’s personal charitable activities, have resulted in over $37 million donated to charity since 2001. The Meet The Moonlight World Tour works closely with venues to promote sustainability including energy conservation, sourcing of local food and plastic free initiatives, including reusable models and water refill stations. Johnson’s team is proud to promote the Eventim Apollo’s reusable cup program to reduce single-use plastic waste. In addition to taking strides to reduce the carbon footprint of the tour, £1 pound of every ticket purchase will support local climate solutions.
