Since 1969 the society has broadened their palette from three original members wanting to put on free exhibitions in Highworth. Jump forward to 2018 and the collective now offer weekly workshops for amateur and professional artists which provides artists over the age of 18 to the opportunity to participate in annual exhibitions.
The Spring Exhibition will be taking place from Saturday March 17 to Sunday March 25 - the opening will be unveiled by Mayor of Highworth, Cllr Nick Gardiner, who will select a chosen favourite to receive the Spring Trophy on the preview night.
Hightworth Artists’ Society member, Jacquie Jackman, said: “Art has many forms - Drama, Music, Dance etc. We all have our preferences and although opinions vary, we know what we like. My choice is painting, whether it’s the child’s drawing stuck to the fridge or the Grand Masters hung in our National Galleries - painting is my passion and a paint box is like a casket of jewels waiting to be explored.
“My first love is Oil Painting. The rich intense colors can be manipulated to produce many different effects from dark and brooding, to light and delicate, so that the ‘subject ’ is open to a myriad of interpretations.
“As a member of Highworth Artists’ Society my hobby has grown. The inspiration drawn from the considerable talent in the group and the encouragement of fellow members challenged me to try new mediums. Watercolor, Acrylic and Pastel have earned my respect and now enhance my repertoire whilst maintaining my passion for Oils.
“Artists will always strive to do better with each new project. Success and failure go hand in hand, but nothing can surpass that warm sense of pride felt when the kind words of a passing stranger or the sale of a piece, elevate the ‘attempt’ to a ‘successful achievement’.”
