Drivers do not need to book in advance but simply drive their car to the Museum on 22 April where they can display it outside for free or pay to visit the Museum at the discounted price of £9. Museum visitors can enjoy seeing over 300 cars from the collection in its two buildings with an option to join one of the free guided tours on offer.
The Drive It Day scheme was initiated by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs to encourage historic vehicle owners to celebrate the UK’s transport heritage, and our national love for classic cars, by all taking to the road on the same day for a Sunday run out - demonstrating how many historic and interesting vehicles are still on the roads today.
Every year Drive It Day is held on the Sunday nearest to the 23 April as it commemorates the 64 cars that left London on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial in 1900. The Trial went through Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Derby, Kendal, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, and Nottingham before finishing back in London. Within the Museum visitors can see an 1899 Wolseley Voiturette ‘OWL 707’ which won first prize in its class at this historic event.
Please note the discounted entry price of £9 provides entry on 22 April 2018 only. If you would prefer an Annual Pass you can opt to ‘Gift Aid’ on full price Museum admission.
Gift Aid Annual Passes are valid for 12 months excluding five special Show Days per year.
