'You've been framed' - a theory about conspiracy

By Jamie Hill

So apparently, being a part of the Mainstream Media (or MSM if you’re one of those who likes your conspiracy speak), I’m part of a global conspiracy with all journalists in cahoots with every Government, every scientist and every corporation to try and keep the truth hidden from some plucky people in their back bedrooms who have discovered the ‘truth’ on the darker side of the internet.

And these plucky conspiracy theorists have been getting louder and louder since this pandemic began and more and more people are starting to believe them.

Just on my own Facebook feed, on a daily basis, I’m seeing more and more otherwise intelligent people start spouting these nonsensical theories. It’s bloody tiring and I have to resist the urge to not rant at them for their stupidity every time I see them post.

So according to these theories, which usually come from the same people, despite them contradicting each other -

1. The pandemic is a hoax - scientists all around the world have joined together with every journalist around the world as well as every Government to force us into lockdown as a means of controlling us and then injecting us with a vaccine which contains a chip that has been built by Bill Gates as another means of controlling us. So in this belief system, every Government has decided together as one to cause massive economic self-harm to its own countries just so it can collect data from us that it can already readily get from our social media and phones. (Did I tell you that these conspiracy theories don’t make sense?) Oh, and they want us to wear face-masks because they don’t like to see our faces, coz we iz ugly!

2. The pandemic is man-made - This is one that has been espoused by The President of the United States (he features a lot in the conspiracy theory world usually as a hero which doesn’t give away the politics of the conspiracy creators at all… honest) that China, in cahoots with every scientist and journalist in the world and the WHO, created the coronavirus on purpose in a lab as a means of destroying the US economy solely with the purpose of removing Donald Trump from power. Yes. It’s all about him. Let’s kill a million people to get rid of a chaotic president who wasn’t exactly going to get a landslide in the election in the first place. Does this man’s ego get any bigger?

3. 5G caused coronavirus - This one is so stupid that I can’t even be bothered to explain it. But with attacks on 5G masts happening - stupid always leads to more stupid.

4. Covid-19 was caused to solely make people have vaccinations - Anti-vaxxers are pretty powerful with a lot of money behind them and have been making videos like ‘Plandemic’ during this international crisis. They ruddy hate vaccinations and usually like to claim stuff that has been scientifically disproven a million times over. They believe that there’s a mass scientific conspiracy (along with journalists as usual) that vaccinations are bad and that we’re only having them to cause mass-harm. Spoiler - vaccinations have already saved millions of lives.

5. There is a massive left wing paedophile ring involving Democrats, billionaires and left-leaning celebrities (including Tom Hanks!) that involves child slaves, cannabilism and Donald Trump is the man that is here to save us all - this one has been disproven a thousand times but it taps into people’s fears so well that people are sharing the hashtag Saveourchildren non-stop at the moment. Created by QAnon, its purpose is to draw people away from the left and get their man The Donald reelected by out and out lying and making up absolute bollocks. There is no truth in it whatsoever but people are still sharing it usually with links to Alt-Right groups’ news stories as if that proves their claims. Steer clear of this one with a barge pole. If you want the full lowdown on this visit here

And those five are just the tip of the iceberg as it gets really strange if you do a deep dive and for some reason always ends up with us being led by a bunch of lizard people, which would make for a good science fiction novel.

So why are these conspiracy theories so prevalent at the moment?

This pandemic is really scary and it’s natural to want to find answers and that something ‘big’ has caused something so ‘big’ rather than some pretty dodgy hygiene issues at a market in Wuhan involving bats. It doesn’t help that the Chinese Government isn’t exactly that transparent and tried to cover it up in the first place. It’s the sort of stuff that makes you want to scream ‘conspiracy’.

It also doesn’t help that there’s foreign governments usually trying to put pressure on elections by nefarious means. Just look at Cambridge Analytica with the Brexit referendum and the Trump election. They are able to shape people’s outlook on life just by posting some dodgy stuff on social media and like a virus, before you know it, it’s been shared a million times. So with all this ‘Fake News’ (hate that expression) it’s pretty hard to know what’s actually true nowadays especially as distrust is being sown from every angle. That’s a real conspiracy that journalists have been uncovering over the past few years.

But where they all fall down is on their sheer scale. Any true conspiracy (Watergate, Catholic priests, Epstein etc.) usually fail because of the sheer amount of people that have to keep schtum. It just wouldn’t happen.

Unfortunately the world is simply not organised enough to carry out a ‘global conspiracy’. A lot of countries don’t even get on so to imagine they would all work together just because they want better 5G connection is utterly ridiculous.

Scientists also aren’t some global cabal. And nor are journalists.

There is no mainstream media conspiracy. I’ve not been handed a brown paper envelope full of money to write this. I wish!

And during this pandemic, this type of misinformation is proving to be pretty dangerous (just like the measles outbreaks caused by people being scared of getting vaccinations because of anti-vaxxers). If enough people don’t get vaccinations, when it is available, or follow the health guidelines because they think it’s a hoax, they are putting themselves, their loved ones and the rest of us in a hell of a lot of danger and are actually actively helping and prolonging the spread.

My advice is that when you see a news story that is carrying some pretty outrageous claims, always check the source and make sure it comes from somewhere that you can trust.

In other words ‘don’t be stupid’ sheeple!
