Win the chance to perform at Avebury Rocks music festival!

Young and emerging performers have a great opportunity to showcase their songs at this summer’s Avebury Rocks festival.

The organisers of this year’s festival are inviting up-and-coming local acts to compete for one of three slots on the Acoustic Stage. The competition, which is free to enter, will champion new and original music by young, local artists.

Avebury Rocks has been running for six years, with profits going towards the services local charity Prospect Hospice provides. This year’s festival will run from Friday 7 – Sunday 9 July; tickets are on sale and applications for the competition are now open.

“Discovering local, young talent is so important,” says Genevieve Arney, Events Manager at the hospice. “We can offer the next generation of musicians a platform to share their talent with new audiences, while also developing our list of artists for future festivals. The applications are already coming in – we’re so excited!”

Twenty-year-old local singer-songwriter, George Wilding, has been performing at the festival since it began. “Avebury Rocks has always championed new music,” said George. “I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play to such a big festival crowd at such a young age. Performing has always been a big part of honing who you are as a musician, so thank you Avebury Rocks for the amazing platform and friendly crowds. Roll on July!”

Applications are now open and will close on 31 May. A panel of judges, including local-born musician Nick Harper, who helped found the event, will compile a shortlist of acts. They will then be invited to perform at a selection evening in Avebury on Saturday 10 June. The three winning acts will be announced on the night.

To apply, acts will need to provide a video of them performing one song live (even if it’s just in their own bedroom!) and complete an application form. Applicants must be aged between 11-18 years, and must be no older than 18 on 8 July 2017. For further information and to apply, please visit www.aveburyrocksfestival.net.
