Top music industry experts head to Oxford to offer local songwriters and composers advice

PRS for Music and the Musicians’ Union are visiting Oxford to host a free event for local songwriters and composers.

Following a string of successful panels nationwide last year, ‘How to Develop Your Career and Make a Living From Music’ will take place at The Jericho Tavern, on Monday 20 February.

Music industry professionals with hands-on experience from across the business will explain the importance of protecting your music rights, as well as gaining knowledge about the business behind musical creativity, and understanding the various ways that creating music can generate an income.

Whether seeking a career in music composition, song writing, production, publishing, or management etc., anyone involved in the art of music can learn about the business and how to reap financial rewards from their creative talent.

Stuart Belsham, PRS for Music’s Education & Outreach Manager (East England/East Midlands), commented: “This event is designed with composers and songwriters at every point in their careers in mind – whether you’ve just written your first song or your fiftieth. As a membership organisation,

“PRS for Music doesn’t just collect royalties on your behalf; we’re also here for creators to turn to for advice and education on the music business.”

While the event is free, seats are limited so please ensure you book a space online if you wish to attend. Both non-members and PRS for Music members are encouraged to attend.
