To Russia, with love: Russia chooses Oxford vodka to kick off World Cup

Oxford Vodka chosen by Russian Embassy for presentation of FIFA World Cup 2018 by the Russia 2018 Local Organising Committee.

Oxford Rye Vodka, produced by The Oxford Artisan Distillery (TOAD), has been chosen by the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom for a celebratory reception to launch the FIFA World Cup 2018, to be held on Tuesday 12 December at the Embassy in London.

The prestigious event, to be attended by 120 senior dignitaries from Russia, United Kingdom, FIFA and the world of sport, will mark the official start of next year’s World Cup, due to be hosted across Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018.

A select group of Embassy guests will be able to sample the English vodka which, in keeping with the ethos of the world’s greatest footballing challenge, is already being hailed a world-class spirit.

Distilled from ancient grains, grown sustainably in fields close to the distillery, Oxford Rye Vodka has total ‘grain-to-glass’ provenance. It is farmed in ways once common in medieval times, contributing to biodiversity in the English countryside. It has an exceptionally smooth, caramel taste – the result of distilling rye grain in TOAD’s hand-crafted copper stills.

TOAD’s founder Tom Nicolson said: “We are deeply honoured to have been selected to participate in this event. The world rightly acknowledges the role that Russia has played over the centuries in creating superb vodkas.”
