This is New Music by Mark Muggeridge

Formation is the handy work of London brothers Matt and Will Ritson but the sound of their current track Hangin’ is all New York 80s. A driving bass line that could easily have come off Tina Weymouth’s thumb and a vocal style that would have felt at home at CBGB form the crucible that sends forth an altclub banger that’s cocky, street wise and F**k me confident. Matt and Will are not total newcomers, they’ve been remixing for a host of artists including Shura and Tobias Jesso Jr. There’s a wide range of influences going on here but underlying all of them is an appreciation of the angularity of Jazz. An EP on Warners imprint, Meno Records sports an equally impressive track called, Young Ones and although we are told that we’ll have to be patient for an album this track focused duo are sure to drop a series of singles and ep’s, all ideal for club play over the next 12 months or so. Keep an ear out on Radio1 for them as the fans there include Clara Amfo and Annie Mac. Need a beat to give you swagger as you head down the street? Formation are the guys to give it to you.
