Swindon's Commonweal School to showcase young creative arts students with special event

Commonweal School are pulling out the stops for another fabulous show to entertain parents and the public on January 25.

Over 120 students are rehearsing lunchtimes and after school to ensure that they deliver quality performances and by the looks on the children’s faces, it is easy to see that they just love it!

Ali Sutcliffe, Head of Performing Arts, said: “The night will showcase the talents of lower school who might not have had the chance to take part in our musical Billy Elliot which we staged last November.

“The event features our many talented Year 7 and 8 students who excel in Music and/or Dance. The programme is made up of a combination of large group pieces, small groups, solos and duets to make for a real variety of entertainment.

“Students have had to audition for a place in the show and so standards will be high. I am particularly looking forward to seeing our Year 7 dance group perform for the first time, and also the re-formed boys vocal group,”

Callum O’Donnell, aged 11, said: “I formed a pop band with a few friends from Year 7 (we haven’t got a name yet) and I will be singing I Think About You by Ross Lynch.

“I am also singing in the boys vocal group who will be performing Story of my Life by One Direction. Then I am in Commonweal Collective and we will be singing Roar by Katy Perry and Shake it Off by Taylor Swift.

“I love music lessons Mrs Sutcliffe is a really good teacher because she helps me with harmony, timing and generally encourages me to do my best. I am a confident person and did my first performance when I was 8 years old in Turkey on a family holiday. Performing in so much fun!”

The Yr 7 & 8 Music & Drama Showcase takes place in the C6 auditorium on Wednesday 25 January, from 7pm. Tickets are £5 and can be purchased on the door. There will be a licensed bar and a raffle to support the Music and Drama departments who require much needed equipment.
