If you were one of the many people who loved the 1990s BBC sitcom Waiting For God, then you know exactly the kind of hilarity to expect from show creator Michael Aitkens’ new stage adaptation, coming to the Oxford Playhouse on June 27.

If you didn’t catch the original show, then you should prepare yourself for:

- colourful characters, with our lovable protagonists wonderfully played by Jeffrey Holland  (Hi-de-Hi) and Olivier Award-winner Nichola McAuliffe (Surgical Spirit, Victoria).

- outrageously amusing storylines, as the residents of Bayview Retirement Home plot their adventures, pranks and escapes, and generally grow old disgracefully.

- a finely tuned blend of side-splittingly funny dialogue and heart-warming emotion. Get ready to cry with laughter and maybe shed a little happy tear too.

The BAFTA-nominated series was a huge hit in the 90s, with the British Film Institute describing its impact thusly: “Waiting for God proved less a bittersweet elegy of old age decline than an affirmation of the adage that while there’s life, there’s hope.

This 21st century update is penned by series creator Michael Aitkens, who is also known for being one of the core writers behind Midsomer Murders. Whether writing comic capers or tense mysteries, his flair for a tight plot and lovable characters always delight audiences.

If you fancy an evening filled with expertly crafted comedy and classic entertainment, then your wait is over…

Tickets for this hilarious show are available from £11.50 to £28 from the Ticket Office on 01865 305305 or online.
