Salisbury Arts Centre presents: Family Fiesta!

Salisbury Arts Centre’s free Family Fiesta takes place this weekend, offering a full day of fabulous fun for all ages.

This year’s themes revolve around sea life and bees and you can expect a cavalcade of shows and workshops next Sunday between 12pm and 4pm. Salisbury Arts Centre will also offer a wide range of creative activities to get stuck in to.

Programme highlights:

The Whale, various times

Meet a giant whale with surprises and stories in his tummy! Enclosed in a lobster-net fence and guarded by a nosy Fish Wife, brave swashbucklers will encounter a shipwrecked Pirate with a treasure tale to tell and a real live Mermaid with a haunting siren’s song and an intriguing secret.

Costume Store,
 12pm to 4pm

Want to look the part for our underwater themed adventure? Then look no further than the costume store. This is your one stop shop to create and make your own under the sea inspired head wear just for the occasion.

Prop Stop, 
12pm to 4pm

Arm yourself with props and a camera, set your scene and start snapping! Whether you’re taking a selfie with a clown fish, wearing a seaweed feather boa or adorning a mighty pair of jaws, we’d love to see your photos so don’t forget to tag us #salisburyartscentre

Animated Tales

Create your own animated adventure and watch your characters come to life before your very eyes.

Busy Bee Cupcakes,
 12pm to 4pm 

Did you know there are around 20,000 different species of bee? Learn about some of our buzzing friends with Becky Twigg from The Secret Garden and decorate your own bee inspired cupcake and cake box to take your edible creation home in. Yum!

Bee Friendly Pottery, 
1pm to 4pm

To coincide with the Salisbury Bee Trail, Salisbury Arts Centre’s resident artist Mirka Golden-Hann is on a mission to enable as many people as possible to create a ceramic bee for their homes or garden.

Shoe Box Theatres, 
12pm to 4pm

Join Salisbury Playhouse to make your very own shoe box theatre to take home.  All the family can get involved making backdrops, characters and maybe even a play!

As You Like It,
 1pm to 2.30pm

The world’s first cycling theatre company, The Handlebards, pedal from venue to venue with all the set, props and costume necessary to perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe.

Join their all-female troupe for this bicycle-powered production, and expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter. Suitable for all ages – as popular with grown-ups as with children!

Discover in a Day, 
12 – 4pm

Arts Award Discover is the introductory award open to children and young people aged up to 25.

To achieve Discover, children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end. This award provides a great introduction to the arts and to other Arts Award levels.

Family Fiesta takes place at Salisbury Arts Centre on Sunday September 16 from 12 pm to 4 pm.
