Rosie Kay Dance presents: 5 Soldiers - The Body is the Frontline

Royal Wessex Yeomanry Army Reserve Centre will be hosting Rosie Kay’s wartime-inspired dance choreography September 29 to September 30.

5 Soldiers’ is a thrilling and humane portrait of army life telling the stories of five men and women serving on the front line.

Deeply realistic, stark and thrilling, the production offers no moral stance on war, but instead questions what it is that we ask of our soldiers and explores how the human body remains essential to war, even in the 21st century.

A visceral ‘tour de force’ of the senses, ‘5 Soldiers’ provides an intimate view of the training that prepares soldiers for the sheer physicality of combat, for the possibility of injury, and the impact conflict has on the bodies and minds of everyone it reaches. The piece has a powerful physicality, moments of humour and is full of honesty, all inspired by input from serving and former soldiers.

In 2008, choreographer Rosie Kay joined the 4th Battalion The Rifles, to watch and participate in full battle exercises, and visited the Defence and NationalRehabilitation Centre for our Armed Forces. What came of these observations is this award-winning, five-star work.
