Renowned sculptor Michael Sandle to give insight into his career and techniques at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery

Internationally renowned sculptor Michael Sandle RA is coming to Swindon as part of the Fiends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery’s programme of talks.

This talk provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the artist whose memorial sculpture to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Homage to Brunel, is currently on display at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Sandle’s work often treads the path outside the fashionable mainstream, exploring themes of death, destruction, inhumanity and media manipulation. Important works have included the WWII Siege Memorial in Malta, A Twentieth Century Memorial at the Tate Gallery, St George and the Dragon, and the International Seafarer’s Memorial (both in London) to name only a few.

Sandle is a multi-award winning artist with work in public collections around the world including the Metropolitan in New York, the National Gallery of Australia and the British Museum.

His talk ‘An Uphill Struggle’ will be a marvellous opportunity to hear more about Sandle’s powerful work and fascinating career.

The event will take place on Thursday 27 July 2017, from 7:30pm at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery. Tickets can be purchased online at www.friendsofsmag.org.
