Red House Records to host Record Store Day build up event at Darkroom Espresso in Swindon

Record Store Day is a major event on any music fans calendar. This year Saturday April 22 will be extra special as it marks the 10th anniversary of this worldwide celebration of the vinyl record.

Red House Records will be hosting a special vinyl customers event to celebrate the launch of the official releases list for this year’s Record Store Day at Darkroom Espresso on Tuesday March 21, meaning all of you vinyl fans can get an idea of this years exclusives as they get announced.

Special vinyl releases and collectors items are made exclusively for independent shops and, as none of the special releases are available on-line or in high street chain stores, vinyl collectors will queue all night to be the first in line for their favourite artists releases.

Across the globe hundreds of artists also use Record Store Day to make special appearances and exclusive performances.

Red House Records (situated within Holmes Music on Faringdon Road) was opened by vinyl fan and musician Paul Holmes. Paul is already making plans for this to be a real event for both Swindon and national collectors.

Paul said: “We opened in May 2013 and this will be our 4th Record Store Day; it just gets better every year! The vinyl revival is still going from strength to strength as younger music fans discover vinyl for the first time and those who grew up with records rediscover the unique experience of putting a record on the turntable.  In 2016 the value of vinyl sales overtook downloads for the first time ever.”

Red House Records have built up a reputation for high quality collectables. Paul continued: “Since launching our online shop we have attracted customers from all over the UK and Europe, we even have a regular customer in Japan, where vinyl is massively popular”.

The eagerly awaited list of the exclusive releases for RSD 2017 will be announced on Tuesday March 21. Red House Records will be holding a vinyl customers evening at  Darkroom Espresso on Faringdon Road.

It is open to anyone interested in music and attendees will receive a copy of the RSD planned releases from which they can make a wish list and get their requests in.  There will also be a free draw on the night to win shop vouchers to spend on Record Store Day.

As the BBC are sponsoring the event, organisers are hoping that representatives from 6Music and BBC Introducing will also attend. All this and some of the best coffee in Swindon.

Paul said: “The rules of RSD are very strict and mean that shops cannot reserve any vinyl, but if we get requests for certain titles we can ensure that we get enough copies on our order.  The limited availability is why last year we had over 50 customers waiting in the rain for us to open at 8am, some diehard fans had been there since 3am! ”

Put the dates in your diary and come along to support your local independent specialist stores.
