Oxford based comic artist Neil Cameron has teamed up with The Story Museum to curate a series of comic events for all ages.

Whether it be 2000AD’s Judge Dredd, The Beano, Marvel or Peanuts, comics have long held a place in the hearts of both young and old. Now The Story Museum in Oxford have teamed up with acclaimed comic artist Neill Cameron, who will be running a series of comic themed events catering for enthusiasts of all ages.

The events will build on the success of ‘Neill Cameron’s Comic Club’, which has run at The Story Museum since the beginning of 2018, giving children aged 8-12 the chance to develop their drawing skills. This year, two new events will be added to the lineup including ‘Comic Club Plus’, which will be aimed at young people aged 12-16, and ‘Sketchbook Social’, an evening event in the form of a friendly informal drawing session for adults, hosted in The Story Museum’s café.

All three events will be hosted by Neill Cameron, who will be on hand to offer expert tips and friendly advice to budding comic artists, both young and old. Neill, who is well known among comic fans for his work on Oxford’s own Phoenix Comic, has twice been shortlisted for the British Comic Awards, and in 2017 won the Excelsior Award Jr, a national comic award voted for by school and library reading groups across the UK.

The events will form part of Neill Cameron’s contribution as artist in residency at The Story Museum, which will also see him create a giant comic strip on the front of the museum’s building hoarding. This work is supported with Heritage Lottery funding as part of the museum’s plans to reach new audiences during its redevelopment. The £6 million redevelopment project, which will create a total of 10 new gallery and activity spaces at The Story Museum, is now underway thanks to generous support from Arts Council England, the Heritage Lottery Fund and a range of other Trusts, Foundations and individuals.
