Oxford Playhouse moves its workshops online

Whilst the Oxford Playhouse building is temporarily closed, the theatre is working hard to ensure that the creativity continues. As part of this initiative, Oxford Playhouse is moving its regular classes and activities online, with sessions starting from Monday 27 April.

Hey Diddle Diddle, the “best music session for toddlers in Oxford” (Parent feedback), will be the first to launch, followed by the 12|16 and 17|25 Young Companies, and the Playhouse Adult Company later in the week.

Sessions will take place using the Zoom video conferencing platform with details of the meetings shared with participants via email before the sessions begin. Oxford Playhouse has outlined new safeguarding measures for these unique circumstances to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the participants.

In addition to this, in order to support participants during this current COVID-19 crisis, the prices for the Summer Term sessions have been reduced to allow as many people as possible to participate in these creative schemes from their own homes.

Paul Simpson, Participation Manager Oxford Playhouse commented:

We want everyone, whilst temporarily tucked away safely at home, to stay creative. The creativity and curiosity of our audiences and communities will ensure that we all stay connected to each other, and will provide the spirited momentum we all need in order to get back to normal in a few months.”

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all performances scheduled at Oxford Playhouse and the Burton Taylor studio have now been suspended until 8 June 2020.  Oxford Playhouse will review future performances in the coming weeks.

Louise Chantal, Director / CEO Oxford Playhouse commented:
“I am very proud of the Playhouse staff for their rapid response to our temporary closure, and their determination to make sure Oxfordshire stays creative during this period.   Our audiences have already shown their support for the theatre, and we want to ensure we continue to entertain and engage our community throughout this time.  Community Playmaker seemed like a natural extension to our existing writing programmes.  #staycreativeoxfordshire!”
