Out of this world show coming to Devizes

The aliens are descending on Devizes as St Mary’s Church plays host to a production of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds.

The ground breaking electro-synth opera, staged by The Invitation Theatre Company, will run from 15 – 19 November.

Musical director Anthony Brown said: “We have a seventeen player strong orchestra, with a strings section, four keyboards, percussion and a drummer who has dreamt of playing in this since he was 8, this is going to be quite spectacular!

“We have not tried to emulate the arena tours in this production with 30ft Tripod Alien Machines or video projections, we have deliberately kept it simple so that the audience can enjoy the story and the music for what it really is.”

The 1977 masterpiece is rarely performed other than in the West End, making its appearance in Devizes all that more exciting.

Chairman of the theatre company Paul Morgan said “We like to try our hand at exciting things - I don’t think much can top what we’re going to pull off later this month. The cast are outstanding, with singing that is spine tingling and I would urge everyone to not only support local arts at its best, but to come and be thoroughly entertained!”

Tickets start at £12 from Devizes Books in Sidmouth Street.
