Following the production’s debut at Swindon’s Shoebox Theatre, Wrong Shoes Theatre Company are taking The Unbinding on tour.

Heading out this month The Unbinding will be touring across the UK including showings at Oxford’s Burton Taylor Studio, June 20, Swindon’s Shoebox Theatre, July 13, and ending at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The Unbinding is a story told by four imprisoned women accused of witchcraft. Although set in an earlier time period the production explores contemporary themes that portray the ways in which women are subjected to torment created by prejudices beyond their control. The women’s relationships and identities are challenged as their stories unfold, taking a further look into society’s moralistic stance.

Luke Marquez, Director of Wrong Shoes Theatre Company, explained: “By researching and working with historical accounts of witch trials through Europe, we have created a piece that explores a world where those who dare to stand out from the crowd are treated with hatred and suspicion.

“Due to its content, the show may be uncomfortable watching for some. But after what thousands of women and men went through doing the witch trials we wanted to stay true to their experiences and also explore the folklore that surrounded their persecution.”
