Oxford based Café Reason are well known for their experimental work in theatres, on the streets and even on the city’s buses.

Their latest work, to be performed at Pegasus in January, is a compelling piece that has been inspired by and named after an abandoned dolls’ house found at their rehearsal space.

A Dolls’ House combines dance and physical theatre with specially composed music, soundscape and film to produce a thought provoking, enchanting and funny performance. The production explores the dream symbol of ‘The House’ as we peer in and observe the inhabitants’ secret lives and eternal dilemmas.

Company founder Jeannie Donald McKim said:¬†“Coming to see Dolls‚Äô House is an opportunity to explore dreams and day dreams: what’s in the box, behind the door, hidden in the attic? Perhaps we are not as in control as we think, to some extent we are all dolls, manipulated by others, by patterns we find hard to break. We hope audiences will be moved by the ‘dolls’ lives as well as laugh at and with them‚Äù

Dark, moving, and humorous by turns, Dolls’ House uses an original musical score, to underpin the characters’ struggle with the limitations of their bodies, gender, roles, and relationships.

Dolls’ House¬†is a collaboration between Caf√© Reason, film maker¬†Dariusz Dziala, and musicians¬†Bruno Guastalla,¬†Pete McPhail¬†and¬†Malcolm Atkins. The musicians work extensively as composer/performers with a wide range of contemporary music and dance/theatre groups, and combine their creative practice with academic research (Malcolm), music therapy (Pete) and violin making (Bruno). All four contribute their formidable and diverse talents to create a truly original theatre experience.
