A new gallery is set to open at Westgate Oxford, as Castle Fine Art, the UK’s leading group of retail art galleries, has chosen the shopping destination as home for its latest venture.

The gallery will open at the end of this month on Westgate’s lower ground and will join Castle Fine Art’s network of 38 galleries across the UK as it continues its rapid nationwide expansion.

After nearly three months of renovation work, the building underwent a custom refit to offer the ultimate customer experience for visitors to the gallery. It features high ceilings, wrap around windows and a bespoke lighting system to complement the art that will be displayed, which includes works by Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood and Billy Connolly.

The new gallery will be managed by Kevin Goodbody, who is relocating to Oxford after successfully managing the company’s Reading gallery. With a background in architecture and fine art, he will oversee the day to day operations of the gallery and assist customers wanting to learn more about the artwork on offer.

Enjoying more than two decades at the top of its industry, Castle Fine Art is part of the Halcyon Group, one of the largest and most prestigious art groups in the world. Since it was established, the company has succeeded in making fine art more accessible, bringing the art world’s contemporary talents to the high street.

Consistently produced to the highest quality, every piece of art hanging on Castle Fine Art’s walls is made by Washington Green, the UK’s leading fine art publisher.

Ian Weatherby-Blythe, group managing director of Castle Fine Art and Washington Green, said: “For a long time now, we’ve believed our art would be well received in the beautiful, cultural city of Oxford.

“Unfortunately, until now we couldn’t find the ideal space, but the opening of the Westgate development solved our dilemma, offering us the perfect location with design features that suit our new style of gallery. We are very much looking forward to welcoming people to the gallery to introduce them to our portfolio, which has never been exhibited in the city before.”

Kevin Goodbody, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art’s new Oxford gallery, said: “I’m excited to continue my career as part of Castle Fine Art in Oxford.

“The impressive design and layout of the new gallery will make for a fantastic experience for visitors and staff alike, and the location in Westgate shopping centre is ideal to house the work of some of the best artists in the industry.”

Brendan Hattam, general manager at Westgate Oxford, said: “We’re honoured that Castle Fine Art has chosen Westgate for its Oxford location. Visitors will get the chance to see some incredible works of art, and we’re excited for everyone to see the work they’ve been doing behind the scenes over the past few months to make the space their own. Castle Fine Art is a fantastic new addition that further enhances the offering here at Westgate Oxford.”
