Music review: Palm Rose's EP 'Daydreams' -

I saw these guys for their first live performance - I was left mesmerised.

Throughout their first gig Palm Rose had a combination of minimal stage presence, drifting riffs and spine-tingling guitar chimes, with their lead singer’s, Adam, enchanting vocals at the helm. All of the latter are still very present in their new EP, Daydreams (released today). Palm Rose have made their own foothold in the world of dreampop – Daydreams is embeded with the hypnotising qualities of Beach House, but also the raw attributes of Beirut. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out which other artist Adam’s voice compared to, until it clicked it was Beirut’s Zach Condon. His voice is folksy, almost classical, but the band have built an alt-pop sound around it which executes their sound, as a whole, in a very shoegazing and contemporary manner. It’s a stunning listen. [caption id=“attachment_42445” align=“aligncenter” width=“741”] www.palmrose.bandcamp.com[/caption] As each song coasts onto the next, - yes, all very daydream like - everything hits you at once in the best possible way. I’m a fan of bands that can give you a very visceral experience, and that’s what Palm Rose provides. Sometimes this can be scary, because a band like this can tap into inner emotions which you hoped were locked away for good. But what is also evident in each song of this EP is that Palm Rose are there with you - it’s all very misery loves company with lyrics like “And I will let you down” (Daydream), and  “I must confess, that I’m in love with you” (Move Slowly). It’s music that Morrissey would inflict upon you. I see Palm Rose in years to come against the backdrop of an incredible light display, overlooking a crowd that are there in that present moment with them. Speaking honestly? Daydreams is short and sweet, but incredibly impactful. Palm Rose are an asset to Swindon’s music scene, and I look forward to watching them grow. You can catch Palm Rose tonight for their EP release show - supported by Rainy Day Fund, and Basement Club - at Swindon’s re-opened Level III.
