Friday 25 September; World-renowned jazz singer-songwriter Melody Gardot has released her new song ‘Sunset In The Blue’. It’s the title track from her fifth album, written with longstanding collaborator Jesse Harris (Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux). It gives the album its title because it perfectly encapsulates the mood you feel when you hear the record in full – listen here.
Also out today is the accompanying music video for ‘Sunset In The Blue’, which tells the story of a couple’s love and heartbreak through polaroid photos and vintage movie footage. Based in a gorgeous European city, you follow their relationship journey through the highs and lows, all set to the emotive soundtrack of Melody Gardot’s newest number.
The forthcoming album Sunset in the Blue, available everywhere on 23rd October 2020 via Decca Records, is an orchestral celebration of her jazz roots. She is reunited with the multi-Grammy award winning production team of her platinum-selling album My One and Only Thrill: Producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock), arranger and composer Vince Mendoza (Björk, Robbie Williams, Elvis Costello) and the legendary engineer Al Schmitt (Frank Sinatra, Joao Gilberto, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney).
Single ‘Sunset In The Blue’ joins previous release ‘Little Something’ - a stunning duet with Sting and different style for world-renowned jazz artist. The up-tempo song captures beautiful Latin-pop elements and highlights their distinctive vocals, making it a memorable late-summer number.
Confined to her home in Paris in May of 2020 Gardot made headlines when she put out a casting call across social media to orchestral musicians unable to work due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions. With their help she created a virtual orchestra for her first single release, ‘From Paris With Love’. The singer made headlines again in June recording the first COVID safe studio session at London’s historic Abbey Road Studios along with the celebrated Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
An underlying theme of determination to create and evolve her craft has always been present in Melody Gardot’s work but never more so than during the production of Sunset in the Blue, despite all obstacles she has assembled a stunning new body of collaborations in this most challenging of times.
