“Making music on her own terms” - have you heard Miraa May's latest EP?

Recently Miraa May released her second video ‘Nobody’, filmed by friend Mahaneela (Sampha, Steve Lacy) as a montage of her enlightening trip to LA.

‘Nobody’ is lifted from Care Package, the 5-track EP which introduces a new artist who will make you move, think, laugh, cry and feel. The Algerian born, Tottenham based singer-songwriter takes inspiration from the north London streets where she grew up, from the friendships and the experiences of a life lived.

The personal VHS home video feel and the surrounding LA backdrop capture Miraa’s positive policy of self confidence: “I wanted the video to be extremely inclusive. My main goal was for people of all races and religions to feel represented and appreciated, and to shed light on positivity because the world has been so dark recently. It was starting to suck the life out of me.

“I also wanted to showcase how beautiful happiness is. When I watch the video I feel happy,” says Miraa in an interview with Notion.

In 2014 Miraa May debuted with her first EP titled ‘The Beginning’. The EP, alongside a handful of raw and soulful live performances, attracted the ears of Award winning, legendary producer Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Nas, The Fugees) who produced her second EP N15. Now Miraa releases her most unapologetic, frank and heartfelt collection yet. ‘Care Package’ documents a young woman living life to the full, discussing big themes like love, life, sadness, relationships, cooking, gaming or Anime (which inspired the Care Package artwork). These five songs, and if you take some time to check out Miraa’s Instagram, give an insight into the character behind this remarkable music. ‘Care Package’ is out now on Island Records.
